stg2+GTI vs 09 SS cobalt vs Del-sol

Took my car on a business trip to a bordering country and while I was there I decided to have fun with the locals.

First up was a Del-Sol, Now I really am confused about which motor it has, I was first told by one person that it was fully built(bottom-end) single cam motor with full bolts ons and straight methanol injection, with a tune that put down 230ish to the wheels, then the driver tells me it’s actually a GSR with a upgraded spring/valve-train head to handle the hotter cam and higher Revs. Other than that it did have all the bolt-ons with methanol and a tune. He did claim that it made 230-240 whp between 7000-9000 rpm’s.

I personally think the driver was fully of himself, They would not open the hood, I think it wasn’t GSR motoring that car along. You be the judge….

Next up was 09 ss cobalt with, Hahn 3" SS Cat-back, and Hahn cool ram intake. I don’t know if it was driver or not, but I thought it would had been a lot closer of race.

nice runs...
if it was a single cam del sol, u would of killed it. i would say it was a bolt ons. i ran into 94 hatch with full gsr swap, i/h/e, race gas, computer tune and got him in 4th by a car or so. all i had was ecu, fmic, intake, tbe, neuspeed pulley.

Yeah, that SS didn't do too good...Might have had a bad start or something. A roll-on would have been a better test.

But nonetheless, good kills!

If that SS didn't have a tune along with the I/E that would explain why you beat him.

I'm sure we all remember that video of the SS with Tune and I/E walking a KO4.....

I remember watching that video. I think there was something wrong with the GTI. It should of been a closer race.

He had good luanches, He could have been shifting out of his power band so from a dig or roll I still would put a car or two on him.

Looks like avg stock time for the ss is around 14. I doubt a catback and intake add much.

Nice runs and kills, but that Del Sol wasn't making anywhere near the advertised power.

1) In all my time being around Honda's I've never seen an all motor single cam make anywhere even near 200whp, let alone 230-240. And I've seen some with pretty nice builds. Even boosted singles don't make much power, except for that 1 or 2 exception. Remember, you're talking about a single cam motor that stock makes like 105whp.

2) A built GSR motor itself wouldn't even make near 230-240Whp, all motor. Fully built you're looking ~ 210whp, with a few getting up in the 220 range. But if this extremely light del sol had that kind of power to the wheels, I'm sorry there's not much your stock turbo GTI would be able to do. I'm just being real, and honest. 240whp in a 2200lbs car would be flirting with 11's if it had suspension.

210whp in a 2200lbs car goes a lot further then the 210whp mark would indicate. And I highly doubt that car in the video even had that much honestly. It just doesn't pull through gears like it should IF it was making that much power, in a car that light.

Consider a stock s2000 only makes ~ 200whp and weighs more then 2800lbs.

Here's a video of a built GSR motor that only makes 204whp in a Civic coupe that weighs 2700lbs. Even this heavier/less powerful car rips through the gears much faster. There's a stage 2 GTI as the camera car.
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/W...Red_165466.htm

And here's a 185whp GSR that is UN-tuned.
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/W...R-2_165209.htm

When you figure these cars weigh probably a good 500lbs more then that Del Sol in your video does I'm saying there is absolutely no way that car is making anywhere even remotely close to the power he claims. It would be a deadly combination if he was however.

you have some good points, but people can get horse power out of those motors than you state, granted maybe not your run of mill motors get, but there honda enigines out there making more than that, with-out the use of force induction.

yea, i mess around with some local cobolts owners sometimes. one night i ran against a 1 month old stock cobolt ss t/c and a worked ss s/c. we ran down the expressway (3 lanes) from 3rd gear. i walked the ss t/c yet the ss s/c stayed completely even with me the entire time. id only gain ground if he shitty shifts

even if the turbo ss had all the bolt ons and no tune the ecu is going to limit the car to 260 hp/tq.

OP you need to get back out to the track with your new mods, 13.9@101 at stage 1 is healthy. also just to clarify wasn't trying to downplay your kill I'm just interested in the LNF's and have been reading about them a little. so nice runs and for bringing vids.

not true. its called a learn down feature and the only way to turn it off is going through the ecu with a tune from hahn/bsr or hptuners or trifecta
