Both of your points are pure speculation at this point.

The MKV R32 was knocked for being as expensive as it was but it sure sold fine.

I wouldn't really say that; when there are still new .:R32s on lots right now 2 years later. Or were up until a month ago at least.

Initially excited to read it, but was unimpressed by the review in the end.

Agreed. I have wet dreams that involve a 3.5 or 3.7l VR6. Think about that sound.. jeez.

seriously, what were you expecting?

this is lighter and more powerful than the last R32... and gets better gas mileage. the TT-S runs low 13's in the 1/4 mile and with an APR tune alone runs 12's... TT-S weighs 3241lbs, where the R weighs "Curb weight (mfr’s est): 3350–3400 lb"

100 lbs = roughly .1 sec, so it'll still be very quick.

It should be faster than STI's & EVO's or at least equal. Interior is superior. Refinement is superior. Fuel economy is better. Looks are better, in my opinion. AWD is the only part that won't be as good, but I'll bet none of you really care about that. There is even a rumor we'd get a traditional 6-speed manual because the R32 didn't do so well with only a DSG.

So...?

I'm still pretty excited about the car. Although, the TTS and A3 are still on my list.

TTS for 50-60 grand? No thanks. Driven a few at work, nothing to write home about. Too bad the US doesn't get the TTRS

also, I found the AWD system interesting. Spends most of the time on FWD mode, but can shift it all to the back. Wondering if a stock (or perhaps a modded?) R could be switched from "Daily driver" to "drift" mode at the push of a button. THATS worth 10 k right there....

The look on peoples faces when a Golf starts doing donuts in a parking lot would be priceless

It would make sense that the software could do that. Presumably there would be a winter mode, that keeps it at a split between both wheels at all times.

Yea, I'm getting one of these....

Golf R First Drive: Car and Driver

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...review?cid=327

At €36,400 (the equivalent of $50,790) in Germany, the Golf R is nearly $14,000 more expensive than the GTI. If it came to the U.S., the premium would likely be about ten grand above the GTI’s $24,215 base price. But will it make the transatlantic voyage? It was basically a done deal last year, but VW remains undecided at this point. Although we crave the Golf R’s presence on U.S. shores, and we have to say that the car is damn good, its superiority may come at a price that few will be willing to pay. So we understand VW’s hesitation—wait, what are we saying? Bring the Golf R here now.

all the reviews talk about the new sweet 4 cylinder delivers a beautiful exhaust note compared to the VR6 R32. My ass, it doesn't sound better.

Taureg starts at $40k, Eos starts at $32k... I think the Phaeton was upwards of $50k when it was new wasn't it?
