Hankook Z214 C51 Medium Compound

Picked up a set to try, I wanted something wider than my 225/40/18 Nitto NT01.

I got these in 245/35/18, was concerned about a short sidewall but they actually look meaty.

Has anyone else tried them?

What's your wheel offset and will that rub? I have ET45 and I wonder whether 245/35/18 would clear the strut...

I started off with running Nitto NT01's on my OEM wheels which are 18" and then I upgraded to some Enkei PF01's, so I stayed 18" since I had the tires. I'm glad I did, cause my BBK seems pretty darn close, I had to get the low profile wheels weight relocated over the weekend during my test fit.

I've seen a lot of positive posts about them, did you use your's for mostly auto-x?

I haven't lowered the car off my jack stands, been doing some work to the car, but it looks close. I have 2 and 5mm spacer as a backup in case.

The wheels are 18 x 8 45et.

I'm going to lower the car down off of the jacks tonight, so I'll let you know how the fitment goes, a friend suggested flipping the helper springs to the bottom of the shock for more clearance.

I got the bumper back on and mounted the wheels last night, fitment looks a little close to the strut but I think I should be fine, overall fitment looks good @ -2 camber in the front and -1.5 in the rear (KW plates)

I'll be doing a pre-Fastivus shakedown @AAA Speedway Roval this weekend, gonna take it easy and see how the tires fit/work and test out the new 4 pots calipers. I'm running a race pad in the rear too, I'm hoping it will be worth the extra effort running race pads all around, Carbotech seems to think so.

Sick. A fellow racer had the same tires at the last TT I was at, granted he had a 2,000lb civic haha, but he was damn quick! He was using Cobalt Race Pads though. What Carbotech's do you have?

I'd imagine your braking zones should be cut down significantly with all that rubber and pad. Granted, your corner exit speed will be much higher too so they might still be the same. Have fun, I'm sure you will be freaking out some dudes with very expensive cars!

I usually run a respectable time (2:03.03) @AAA Speedway keeping up with new Mustangs and 370 Z's. I'm trying to work my way down to 2:00, a lot of time can be had by going WOT through the banking but I haven't built up to that yet.

I run Carbotech XP20 (enduro pad) and XP10 rear pad, this will be my first time using a rear racing pad.

I would think a sub 2:00.00 lap would be doable just from the tires alone. That is a pretty freaking long course, lots of places for the Rcomps to work their magic.

hoping so, I hear the change from 225 to 245 on street tires is pretty substantial.

I'll report back with progress, it will be around 100°F =/

Well, the tires worked out great, the change from 225 > 245 was huge, on track temps read 110ºF on my MFA, no chance of breaking my old record with a day like that. I ran a hot pressure of 40 and the sidewalls feel stiffer than the Nitto NT01's I was running before. You can feel the extra sidewall on turn in and tracking out. I had no rubbing issues as well, glad no spacer was needed up front.

I could barely get 2 - 3 hot laps in and my coolant temps were pegged in the red, oil temps @250. I had to back off and re-stage the car to give it a chance to cool down, time for more cooling mods...

Hope your KW is capable handling these rubber. I'd consider running -2.5 to -3° front and -2° rear.

No rubbing at all going through the banking this weekend, the banking gives a lot of compression too. KW Clubsport's had no problem handling them (514lb front/400lb rear). I think I'm going to run -3º (front) and -2º (rear) very soon.

It's a whole new car now.

If you get no rubbing you're not going fast enough.

Are the springs printed with 90-170 and 70-170 (N/mm + mm)?

You might not need to go quite so high on camber with 245's, would suggest you check tire temps first to see if it really needs it. You'll also wear down tires more unevenly and quickly. If you have an LSD the front inside tire will generally have its inside third worn down quickly. The outside tire will hold beautifully with more camber but the inside edge of the front inside tire takes a beating as it is no longer anywhere near level with the road on a hard corner. Rotate often and flip flop on the rims often otherwise they'll end up looking like cones rather than tires.

The 245-35-18's look like a nice fit, no doubt it stuck well.

I am full believer in race pads at a track day, I started using Hawk DTC-60's last spring and haven't looked back. They'll lock up my 245's on stock brakes easily.

I've beaten VR6's at the track before (the old 12v 2.8's), rather mercilessly, with no cooling issues, surprised to hear an R32 having issues. Perhaps water pump getting weak?

I know right, to be honest I made too many changes to the car: tires, calipers, walk, and sub frame collars. It feels like a whole new car, so I'm slowing stepping up my limits.

I haven't seen any markings, that number is unconfirmed. I'll have to double check when I pull them off to adjust my camber.

I'd like to get a little more inside wear than what I'm getting. It's not bad, but I feel it could better, maybe I should start @ -2.5º up front. I have a cheap pyrometer and the outside was slightly warmer than the middle/inside.

No LSD at this time.

I mark them so I can stay on top of rotating the best I can.

Glad you finally went all in with a solid pad, the extra work is worth it.

The DSG is what's heating up the coolant. I found an ultra low thermostat that opens at 158ºF, hopefully that will help and running a 80/20 collant mix, we'll see what happens @ Big Track Willow Springs in a few weeks.
