60 000km service

Barloworld Mascot quoted me $1,300 for the service and $33 for a courtesy car for a day. This sounds on par as carservice.com.au estimated this service would be between $1,100 to $1,200?

What did you guys pay for your 60k kms service?

What is involved in the 60k? Sounds like almost a major?

should be $30 for courtesy car to cover insurance which is now almost standard with VW dealerships... i think i paid about that for the 60k service due to the DSG service... it is something that needs to be done and reported in your service history for warranty... anything every happens to dsg and you didnt get this service, they will more than likely have there way from behind...

its probably the most expensive part of our cars and one that should be handled by the stealers (i mean pros)...

an old VW sales contact of mine have me the actual costings of the services, they are on a bit of paper in front of me, dated 20-JUL-2009. things might be more expensive now tho...

For the 60k km its 602.26 in parts ($201.76 of that is DSG oil, and another 153.20 in spark plugs). labour is 4.2 hrs, and should be about $430. then add GST.

Approx grand total is 1149.79. if you can get it for $1200 your doing well, over that they are taking you for a walk. at LEAST ask for a free car for the day. or ring about service dept.

I'm up for the 60,000 service this week and have been quoted between $800 -$900 by Paul Wakeling Volkswagen Campbelltown, then compared it by getting quotes from Denlo Parramatta who priced it at $975 and Euro motors $900aprox so either way it's seems to be the price.
Either way it's expensive to have this service carried out but a necessity.

I'd tell Denlo/CCC what you can get it for at Campbelltown and get them to match the price.

Not really into Dutch Auctions by going back and forth, I think that Wakelings are trying to establish their Volkswagen service and are making sure they are competitive, and being in Campbelltown they keep their prices sharp.....I have dealt with Wakelings in the past and had no issue, but have also dealt with Denlo and rate them highly also along with Euro Auto.
I had hoped Euro Auto would have been more competitive but he is in line with dealer prices also? Would have much preferred to deal with him, but for convenience and price Wakelings are getting the job tomorrow.....

let me know how it goes. Wakeling guys are relatively new so don't know how experienced the techs are.

Not at all concerned that Wakelings haven't been doing VW for long, they have a good reputation in the area for sound customer service and have looked after my previous cars with no hassle at all.......

Just the $800 + service charge is my issue, I just struggle to get over why a service costs this much !!!!

I had my 60,000k service done n my 2006 dsg GTI recently at Barloworld Glen Waverley in Vic. I was told to budget around $1200 for it.

When the car was dropped of I was called, and told the timing belt / water pump needed to be done as the car is 4 years old @ $1000 and a few smaller jobs such as drive belt @ $51.18 and pollen filter @ $27.27 and the air box mount needed fixing @ $69.86! They discounted the service to $909.28 and the total plus gst was $2263.35

So just check if the timing belt in your car needs replacing and go for the place that offers the best price for the combo.

Sorry to say but it sounds like you were ripped off to the tune of >$1000. I also have a 2006 DSG GTI & this is directly from the service schedule handbook in my glovebox. There is no mention of time-dependent timing belt replacement.

Inspection service:

Condition & tension of V-belt checked

Additional work:

Every 60,000Km
Condition of ribbed V-belt checked
At 90,000Km & then every 30,000Km
Toothed belt for camshaft drive checked
Every 120,000Km
Toothed belt & toothed belt tensioner for camshaft drive renewed.

If anyone has any other opinions your input is welcome.

Timing belt at 60k is a bit rich if you ask me??

If you were to get the service done at Volkspower, what sort of saving would be had? Also does their stamp hold the same value from a warranty perspective as a dealership?

Reason i'm hesitant to drop it off at a dealer is due to the modifications. Don't need it getting joy-thrashed by the service mechanics there as it raised enough interest and eyebrows just having it parked outside Barloworld Glen Waverley when I was there getting some parts form the service department!

I can't see Dean being interested in joyriding given the sort of machines he works on regularly and owns!

^ Thought someone might say that . Don't you think it would be in the service schedule if that were correct? I'd like to see your evidence that very few Euro water pumps (or did you mean timing belts??) make it past 5 years without failure - sounds like to me. Would you change your seat belts every 5 years because that material is also prone to time dependent wear/decay & may not work when you most need it???

There is nothing stated in the drivers handbook about replacing the timing belt at 4 years and yes I could have refused to get it done... The belt may have had some life left in it, but the reasons to get it done as stated above by Jester_Fu is similar to what I thought at the time, so I paid to get the pump/belt combo done.

It's a personal and car condition choice, and my only recommendation is that if your car needs the major service and is getting to the age of replacing the pump/belt that you get the best price for the lot.

True. I get my DSG oil/filter changed every 30000Km & change my engine oil/filter every 7500Km but I think I'll wait for the timing belt [at my risk].

I had my 4 year (60K service) in October last year...Car had only done a tad over 53K at the time cost me $965.

Included plugs, filters etc., but Gretel is a manual not a DSG.

And yes, paying for a courtesy car sucks balls

Mine has just clicked over 60K (in just over two years). Booked the 60K service at one of the dealers in Melbourne coz I'm down here for a few weeks.

For an R32 there is also Haldex oil, filter & diff oil etc. With a DSG the estimate was around $1300. I'm manual though so it'll just be over a grand.

On the question of belt replacement, although I'm not due for it yet, if it was inspected and needed doing, then I'd be doing it straight away. Worked in the industry too long and seen too many engines kamikaze due to belts letting go after poor maintenance.
