My Star Specs are pretty much done, I'm going to use them for one more track event in two weeks and then they will need to be replaced. I would have loved to have a new set of tires today, preferably something a bit stickier than the Star Specs. |

Here is a video from yesterday's Speed District HPDE at Willow Springs. I recommend watching the video on YouTube so you can see it in HD.
There weren't many other cars on the track during this session. A black Corvette went out on the track about half a minute ahead of me, after the initial warmup lap to get some heat into the tires I start on reeling him in -- he comes into view for the first time around three minutes into the video. I eventually pass him and leave him behind, and just before the beginning of the cooldown lap a race-prepped Boss 302 on slicks and a super-charged M3 are getting close to catching up with me. With a better set of tires (I'm getting fresh Star Specs put on this coming week) and the 100 octane program I would have done better, but I doubt that I would have been able to hold off those two cars. |

My friend with the vette could not believe how well you kept up with him. Your car truely handles very well even with stock suspension. That power and LSD really take it to the extreme. It was such a fun day, everyone left at around 4. It was me the vette 1m and the red supercharged m3 left. We just kept doing drag runs cause it was only us. I beat the 1m by 2 cars, the vette took me by 3 cars and the sc m3 about 5 cars +. Such fun day at the track I will let you know for the next event. Next time fresh tires so you can stay the whole day. The ending is the best! My fastest time was 1:45.6.. I know I could have shaved at least 3 seconds off. I was just messing around too much lol. You hit like 1:41? http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=737117

No, my fastest time was 1:43.6. Next time I'll have fresh tires (well, fresher than on Saturday anyway), but I'll also be Stage 3+ by then so I will be more competitive with those supercharged M3s and the Porsches.
I'm impressed you beat the 1M by two cars, those things are quick. Edit: Why did your friend in the Corvette point me by that quickly? I hadn't been able to pass him up to that point and he was able to put power down more quickly at the exit from turn nine going into the front straight and put some distance between us. I think he could have held me off longer. Last edited by PRND[S]; 11-28-2011 at 03:16 AM. |

He let you pass cause you were giving him a hard time lol. He wasn't using his original street eagle F1 supercar tires. He just got a used set for the track and said they are bunk. I felt bad his car could do much better than 1:45.3

I need to link up with you guys, the Big Track is a lot of fun and fast. The best time I pulled a few months ago running with a passenger and no engine/dsg tune was 1:44.9

I got myself a GoPro and have some HDTV-quality footage from the track - can anyone recommend a freeware video-editing software for Windows for cutting the boring stuff out and adding some captions?

Just grab Windows Live Movie Maker from Microsoft:
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker It lets you do basic editing and outputs WMV files (which YouTube can digest) and also burns DVDs. |

Unedited straight from the camera so contains cool down laps:
edit: check 14:30 if you want to see a Ferrari 360 Spider to go straight out at the end of a straight

Why did you slow down around 9 minutes into the video?
And that silver Ferrari seemed out of control long before he went out of control, I'm not surprised he wound up where he did. The only thing that surprised me is that he carried as much speed as he did, and that he apparently got going again but then pulled off to the right on that same straight a lap later. By the way, the water bottle rolling around on the floor is very dangerous. I'm sure you know that already. |

I'm babying the brakes as I don't trust them completely yet even after the upgrade (earlier I had problems with boiling the fluid). I'm pushing it more in the later sessions, I'm trying to get those clips online too.

Here's another session from the same day, I'm having some fun with a race-stripped Citroen Saxo Cup but the other driver is better than me :)
..also at 18:30 onwards I brake at the last second (stupid) at the end of a 110MPH+ straight and end up going wide.

Small comment - don't wrap thumbs around the wheel, if you hit a rock or bump while going off road the wheel may jerk and your thumbs may end up getting whacked hard by the wheel. |

ps. the weird noise in each turn to the right is from my Unibrace, it's under enormous stress in hard cornering - I'd recommend that mod for anyone with a MkIV-MkVI Golf. The difference with or without is veryg clear even on the street.

The flex in the chassis is clearly diminished, especially in the rear. It's sort of difficult to describe but one can notice it instantly in corners. Now the chassis feels like a rigid box and the rear of the car tracks the front clearly better than before with reduced understeer.
