My issue with the s cars (and marquee brands in general) is they depreciate as much as a new gti costs within a few years of purchase. Most people could make a pretty big dent in their mortgage with that kind of money. Losing $25k+ in depreciation within 4 or so years is just stupid imo.

In my situation I deal with low income tenants. Marquee brands aren't an option to consider. If I were to pull up in a <$10k decade old BMW/Audi it would create far more jealousy and spite in their hearts than if I was to pull up in a nearly $40k new subie......

Also, could u post pics of the interior OP, or are you too embarrassed?
Not exactly. I had to go to PA to find one as they are almost gone. There was a run of 500 and there are about 10 left in the east coast. They only started selling in march so it was less then two months and they are almost sold out. The lease was good because the residual was very good on this car.

And i will post interior pics soon.

You make a good point. Theres a reason they call it the Lawyers lease mobile.

I think it depends on how long you want to keep the car too. By the time I'm done with my GTI, I'll be lucky if it covers the down payment of my next car. My job involves a lot of travel, so 3 years on my GTI will be more like 6 on a normal DD. I get a healthy travel allowance though that's weighted to take into account the accelerated deprecation on my car.

i hope you were referring to an STI when you said "econocar trying to be a sports car" because that is certainly not a GTI. it may be FWD, but it does far more things right than many luxury cars/ sports cars.

what was nice about a WRX/ STI for me is how I can have a 500hp daily driver on racing slicks... even in heavy rain I am fine. so basically i was able to destroy anything on the road. fun at first, but then cops take notice... and for some reason they always go for me and let the rich guy go. not fun. every rich guy in a fast car (and everyone in a slow car) wants to race you and you have to just ignore them despite knowing you'd kill em.

now that it is out of my system, i am far more happy with cars like the GTI and Miata... cars that are very great in most aspects, instead of just being very fast and mediocre in other aspects. i am always comfortable and enjoying the drive vs. uncomfortable 99% of the time and having a blast 1% of the time.
