How to remove glovebox on Mk5 Rabbit/GTI/Golf

You can gain considerable access to the heater box and flaps by simply removing the glove box from the dash. The easy procedure necessitates the removal of 3 pieces of surrounding the glovebox and 7 screws.

First remove the plastic cover which caps the end of the dash and faces the door. Then, remove the middle section of the A-pillar which sits at the same height as the end cap just mentioned. These 2 pieces must come off in order to slide the glovebox out later. The final plastic piece to remove is the center dash cover. This piece sits directly above the ashtray and faces downward. It is not viewable while sitting in the seat. This piece just pops off as well. The first screw removed is behind this cover. To clarify, nothing around the radio or climate controls should be removed.

Screws - As mentioned, remove the screw directly above the ashtray after the cover has been popped off. There are 3 screws along the bottom edge of the glovebox. The upper 3 screws are inside the glovebox compartment. Open the glovebox. You will see the 3 screws running along the top.

After all screws are removed, push/pull the entire glovebox out toward the door till it "pop". Then simultaneously pull down toward the floor and out toward the seat. Don't forget to disconnect the wires for the footwell lighting and glovebox lighting. Also, disconnect the rubber A/C hose if equipped.

Yeah, no problem. Just make sure to return the favor if you can't find a DIY on something you do to your car.
