Fitting a tsi k03 to an fsi k03

Has anyone fitted a IHI k03 as found on the TSI's to an FSI motor? I can get one for a great price. Only concern is the tsi turbo doesn't have a rear pcv port like the fsi turbo has so one needs to work around that.

The ihi turbo's boost quite high safely and am more efficient than the k03 one as found on our cars. Seems interestig to see if it'll work...

The turbo is not more efficient...its a product of a better motor and is actually smaller than a k03 for an fsi...just don't bother.

Damn! Will see how it goes my goddamn car is pissing me off immensely! I'm running 99% duty cycle all the way and 1.25bar boost. I have no leaks whatsoever!

Ruan, the k03 on the TSI is actually smaller than the FSI. It's from IHI, basically people here don't even call it a k03 no more.

You seem to be having the same problem as me. No boost leak, high duty cycle.

To my knowledge the K03 is actually slightly bigger in the TSI. Correct me if im wrong but I know there are two different varients of the k03 which are the k03 and the k03s so he could be onto something but it would barely be worth the struggle

I have my turbo in the garage on the floor (took it out a few days ago). I was suspecting the wastegate actuator arm too. Only other place I didn't check for leaks was the intercooler unit. I will do that tomorrow.

No the ihi is smaller and runs less boost due to a better head design among other things.

So if the wastegate fails you need a new turbo? Ouch! Remind me to buy an extended warranty that covers that.

For the FSI you don't need a new turbo. Probably in best interest to fit a new one though, since its out already (annoying job to take it out).

The actual turbo is only $1300 new ($300 more than a k03). You can drive around that way on low boost (stock levels) until you get injectors, fuel pump and tune. You can get EVERYTHING needed minus a HPFP, DV relocation and tune (assuming you already have a worthy DP by the time you consider a k04) for $2000. If not for injectors labor would cost about the same as a direct k03 replacement. But yes if you have to buy EVERYTHING (upgraded HPFP, DP, have no tune to upgrade from) its going to cost $3500 everywhere. If you are stage 2+ its only going to cost you about $2000 in parts plus labor ($400-600). wish there was a damn tuner that would tune for injectors minus upgraded fuel pump so I could skip that since we all know its very well possible even if they have to tune the midrange conservatively.

I think it's cheap for Ruan, he is in South Africa after all.

So Ruan - it's closer to R13000 for the turbo or installed?

But as others have suggest don't fit and not worth doing it either. Then you may as well put TSI motor into your mk5?

Save money and go K04 if need be.

It's R11500 for just the turbo... Then I still need s3 injectors and a dv relocate with the s3 throttle pipe as well. Not to mention little bits and bobs like nuts and gaskets.

I have access to an IHI turbo for R3000 which roughly equates to $400

yeah man, I'm originally over from your neck of the woods.

I personally would go the K04 vs the IHI. But that is just me.
Is SAC's (Steve Auto Clinic) still the place to be taking VW's too, to get upgraded? or not really.

What brands of tune's or piggyback systems they recommending over there.
Not had a Speed and Sound Magazine in almost 18 months. So I just have no clue anymore.

SAC is a pos place!
We have all the international stuff over here, we use obd tuning like the US. We have a big revo following over here, unitronic is quite big as well as APR and GIAC. Price of a revo remap is R4500 which is round about $550. Unitronic is about R5500 which is $650

The IHI is not worth the effort. Best would be to just replace it with a K03. You could do the IHI but then would need a custom map or tweek the Revo via sps which could be a hit or miss. Could help you out with a K03 if your looking at that solution.
