Clutchmasters FX200 Clutch with Steel SMF

Just was installed today by a small local raceshop here in Pittsburgh called Domination Chassis. The owner is a great guy and fellow racer who does excellent work. A Wavetrac LSD went in along with this install. Purchased the clutch kit from THMotorsports for what was a great price a few months ago. They really have some of the best prices online but they have a pretty limited supply of goodies for our ride. Diff came from Autotech. 3L Motul 300 Gear Oil provided by ECSTuning.

Initial Impressions:
Immediate difference in clutch pressure and feel which is just slightly stiffer than stock, and releases much deeper in the pedal travel. Upon release you can really feel it snap in place, the rev's will barely drop. Don't notice any extra noise over stock though my car is quite loud to begin with, pillowball top mounts/exhaust. Definitely do not hear any chatter at the moment. I'm only about 75mi in to the break-in period and will post back up when I'm closer to 500. Taking it easy on her will def be a bitch. She is begging to be flogged haha. So far I'm very pleased.

Those two items do transform the car. With the LSD track days are far more entertaining. You may find yourself relearning how to corner now that the inside tire no longer lights up like July 4.

any further input on this? considering these clutchmasters as an alternative to SB, due to all the back and forth "issues" I keep seeing, both on here and MK6.

Good to hear, sub'd for continued follow up. This is the route I'm heading as well. My stock clutch still holds strong but at 2+ it's gonna go at some point.

800mi Update!

Ok so, just got done with my first track weekend of the season and first real beating on the clutch/flywheel/lsd combo. All I can say is holy CRAP this car is so much damn fun to drive now! Clutch is still alive I started the weekend at almost exactly 500mi and I'm at over 800mi on it now. It is really starting to grab harder. It felt even stronger on course because of the extra heat I think. I've been babying on the street and it felt really good to put it through it's paces. Shifts feel smoother too probably because of the Motul Trans Fluid.

Some of you guys were asking for street impressions. Let me say this is a great combo for the street. The clutch is just barely harder, it really gives a sport feel but nothing to crazy. My buddy compared to the feel of a 997 Carrera he drove. We have lots of hills here in Pittsburgh and it gives you just enough slip to manage a big hill start. There is some rattle but it's really only noticeable at a stop with the clutch out and the trans out of gear. This is amplified with the windows being down and having the AC on makes it very audible. Without AC I would say the noise from the injectors is louder and is pretty much the exact same noise haha. With the AC on it's louder than the injectors. When decelerating I get some noise too but I believe that is the diff.

I'll try to keep updating this as I put more miles on. Unfortunately I don't put miles on very quickly due to a short work commute but let's say I post back here around 1500mi.

So far so good!

interesting! thanks for the info. Hmm, I was hoping there would be no chatter at all with the 200.

Maybe if it were used in conjunction with the stock Dual Mass Flywheel but I think this is just part of the give and take with switching to a Single Mass Flywheel setup. Maybe someone with more transmission experience in this can chime in.

The dual mass flywheel has more inertia and therefore more stability with leas suseptability to vibrations. That's why when you lighten the flywheel more and more chatter occurs. With that chatter can also stem from softer mounts, typically harder mounts lessen the chatter as the engine doesn't rock back and forth with the uneven, and carrying pressures of the clutch engaging.

I have a steel billet flywheel and hear minimal chatter early in first and if its really quiet very early in second. I have driven a stock clutch with an aluminum billet flywheel and man did that have a lot of chatter! I have absolutely no issue with the steel billet flywheel and my stage 3 endurance clutch.

I haven't found any correlation between transmission rattling at idle and engine mounts at all. Using a SB stg2 with SMF, I've run my car back to back with full BFI stg1 mounts and stock mounts, same amount of idle rattling either way, but YMMV. As you said, rattling is dependent on flywheel mass and the DMF's isolating springs.

Lol it's really loud with AC, headlights and rear defrost on. What bothers my wife more is the stiff suspension.

1500mi update!

First autocross/hard launching done with the clutch/lsd. It performed flawlessly and definitely feels like it hooks up faster off the line. I'm really pleased so far with how this has performed, feels like it just grabs much harder/quicker. Been caught in bumper to bumper traffic with it too and haven't had any problems.

Will provide another update at 3,000mi.

Could you give more reviews/experience with the LSD (What else can you say about the clutch from review one except "it still holds" )

Any updates?

Also, do you know which P/N you went with? The description doesn't seem to say the difference.

17-020-HDKV-AL
17-020-HDKV-SF

Ah, nevermind. It looks like AL is an aluminum flywheel where SF is a steel flywheel. You went with steel, which is probably what I would go with as well.

Clutch still holds at over 3,000mi haha. Been very pleased so far. Guess I should report no changes in noise or anything like that too.

HAHA it better. If not i would pull it out, take a dump on it, and ship it back to CM.

LOL, thats why I'm not even considering SB. Too many horror stories. If I'm dropping a G on a clutch and another few hundred on install, Im getting more then 10,000 miles.
