Early Morning run in - Late 90s Eclipse

I thought he was actual competition as i looked at his aftermarket grill in the rear view and it was an intercooler.. well i looked again and it was just tight mesh that was disguised as a FMIC. you know the ones that make you do a double take just to find its nothing..

he had one of those fart cans that are loud, rattle and rip..

it was horrible..

the race was typical of rice that was looking more then it was.. i didnt even roll up my windows, it was from a dig. I put 3 cars on him fast then another 3.. I know he was upset as he did a fly by started weaving in and out of traffic as i just drove the speed limit after handling him.

i know its nothing big.. but was a silly race i had to write about.

The rule with Ricer Mobiles. If it looks fast (e.g., fake JDM tails, big wing, side skirts, fake DM front and rear bumper, fake carbon fiber front lip, gauges that don't really work, etc, etc, etc) than it probably isn't fast. If it looks stock, but sounds mean, it's likely a pretty damn fast machine.

You gotta love guys who put Pep Boys aesthetic crap on their cars.

My son's '91 Eclipse turbo FWD 5-sp with over 200K miles has run (on the track) 13.8 seconds @102 MPH with one cylinder down to 50 PSI vice 150 PSI cranking pressure. He's got the stock turbo (with a new compressor housing o-ring), injectors, MAF, etc. but was runniing 14 PSI boost vice the stock 11 PSI.

The 2-gen Eclipses are heavier and the AWD's are really heavy with much more parasitic loses from all the extra AWD crap. They take off OK in first gear with the traction advanatge but they slow down quick if stock.

The 1g and 2g DSMs can be pretty mean. They have a 4G63 engine as the starting block, so almost limitless potential. You can get gobs of power relatively easily out of those cars. And the GSX with AWD puts all that power to the ground. Those cars are legit.

The problem with the older Eclipses is that some dudes buy the base model and start putting the stupid body kits on it, the fart can muffler and everything else that looks Fast & Furious. Those are the guys that give the Eclipse a bad name. I've even seen some guys buy a base Lancer and put the Evo wing on it

^^ Yup yup...But I guess every brand has their bunch like that, ya know. I messed around with one on 19 psi, but still on a stock turbo in my S when it was basically stock. And he was holding at first pretty good. Then I guess heat soak set in.
