is the mkV GTI reliable??

hi all, i am new to the forum here, about 3 weeks ago i had the chance to test drive a 2006 mkv GTI with DSG, omg it was awesome to the point i wanted to trade in my car and get a DSG GTI , however, i have been reading all these threads about GTIs malfuntioning, is the 2006/2007 MKV GTI reliable? i would hate to spend close to 26k on a car that have to be in the shop all the time. i have also been hearding about the infamous vw's poor reliability . are they getting better?? what are ur thoughs?

Do a search please!

You find a couple threads regarding this.

They are just as good as any other car, if not better in most cases.

Here we go.

Well just to let you know, I am 22 years old. I just graduated college and I spent the 26K on this GTI. I shopped around for a car for a month or so and bought the GTI and I'm so glad that I did. I have had my GTI for about 2 months now and have had no major problems at all, the car runs like a champ. On the other hand there will be some rattles which you will hear but can be fixed along with a few other very minor things that can all be fixed or changed. I'm sure that there will be some people posting in this thread who will bitch and moan about these minor details. I dont really care about the problems and they have all been fixed and now the car is damn near perfect. So to answer your question, yes there are problems but they are so minor that they really dont matter and if you dont buy this car because of them then i'm sorry but you are retarted. Every car has its problems.

Overall I have never had a car like the GTI. The performance and interior just are just so amazing in my opinion i'm going to have a tough time replacing the GTI when the time comes, ill probably just buy another one.

You said you test drove the car, you know what its like. Its great, I say go for it 100%. Let me know whats up.

Mateya

ps. How about them stillers.

Yes i feel u so much. I had never had such a performance car before .. the closest one might be the 2003 Accord coupe V-6. But in terms of problems .. any kinda car will have problems from time to time .. for my accord coupe, i had to take it back in for fixing cuz of some factory recalls or stuff that i found that's not cool to ignore ... almost once every 2months, this one time it took them a month to fix my interior dash lights... i was driving in darkness for a month .. and i search on the accord V6p forum .. a lot of people were having the same problems that i had ... but i'm just the super unlucky one that i baically having all the problems happened into one same car .. it's all depend on luck dude .. Good luck

This seems like a safe thread to jack Them "stillers" got pretty lucky last night. Pitt's got it and they could make a nice run this year. I'm just happy it's all started. Your next few games look nice, not to mention the 11 day off for your QB to heal from his surgery.

P.S. Buy the GTI, you'll love it.

Well, since it's aleady been jacked...

Down with the Steelers!!!!!!!! (Had to - I live in Cleveland ;-) The Steelers looked solid last night. With the Browns still "rebuilding", I'm rooting for Cinci again this year.

If you do, you should be in prison. The real-world fun of acceleration is between 40mph and 80mph."

Honestly, if you don't mind going in for service a few times, then go ahead. I knew going into the purchase that the GTI has not historically been great (my friend had a 4th gen GTI and warned me). On the other hand, it's really fun... but you might be able to find a better car for 25k, like a used G35 or something like that. More power and actual luxury... I dunno, that's just me.

If I had to do it over again, I would not have bought the GTI.
