Is there any big difference between MRs and nonMRs. I remember riding in a 8 and it was stinking quick. The x just didn't have the same go. Ik from a dig is not close, I was thinking like a 20 or 40 roll.

Which MR are you talking about? All MRs have BBS wheels and Bilstein suspension.
The VIII and IX have a 6 speed transmission and the X has a SST(like dsg) transmission. The gearing on the VIII and IX is a result of more gears so not as quick in a drag race but better options with gearing in autox or road course. The SST has a launch setting and shifts lightning fast but adds weight. I avoided the MR in both my VIII and X because I prefer the 5 speed. The transmission tends to be a limiting factor in all years of the MR when power is added but in stock or lightly modded form seems to be good. There are other small differences like aluminum roof, 2 piece rotors in the 08+, and interior differences, but nothing that can't be upgraded from a GSR. As for the differences between the VIII and X, my VIII was faster but had full boltons. My X is quick, but isn't quite at full bolt ons yet. I think I have another 35whp or so I can add with an intercooler and cams. There are also a lot of stock frame turbo upgrades around that weren't around in 05 and 06 when I was modding my VIII. I think the X is an all around better car, but because of the engine change, a lot of people don't want to transition to the X. The X you drove that felt slow was probably a stock 08. They feel slow because it is the heaviest evo, and had a terrible factory tune. The powerband is bad and makes the car feel sluggish. Sorry for the long post...I can talk evo all day! |

Haha yeah I hear ya. I love the car and have been desperately searching for a IX that hasn't been beaten to death. The X was an 08. So I guess if you say that it was the heaviest and had the worst factory tune that would make sense why it seemed a little sluggish. It did have the sst(which I thought all MRs have?) the tranny was real nice and super quick just like dsg.

Stage 2 is done. Kummrow was nice and seemed knowledgable for what I had done.
Got home to the dp on my front doorstep. Other than being a bit cold in the garage and having to let the car cool down from driving home, the dp was pretty easy. The UR downpipe fits great and from a quality standpoint I don't know what more I can ask for. My understanding is that the stage 2 takes a bit to "break in" but I took it out for a quick spin. I'm a big fan of how the unresonated, catless dp sounds because it really only is louder if you want it to be. Cruising normally sounds very similar to stock. The DSG fart is a bit more noticable WOT, but nothing crazy. I don't know if its the small turbo, but although it clearly is faster now, the powerband seems very linear. Maybe I'm used to a bigger turbo on the evo, but I can't clearly tell when I hit peak boost. Maybe because the tires were spinning, lol. Its hard to say if its faster than a stock x. From a roll I think its a driver's race. From a dig, I'm certain the evo still has the advantage. All in all, I'm happy with the mods. Too bad everything else doesn't yield such large gains until you upgrade the turbo. So I'm probably done with power mods for a while. |

Good to hear it went well. It takes a little while for the ecu to really adapt, so there may be a little more grunt coming too. Thanks for your thoughts on the two cars. I agree that from a dig the evo will crush a gti. I was interested to hear what you thought about the two from a roll. I agree that it would be somewhat of a drivers race. I know a s2 will hang with a mildly bolted 8 at a 20/40 roll.
Are you still using the stock cb or did you get a new cb? Healthynine, do you drive a candy white 3 dr? |

Ok yeah, probably the same. I see him at 27/Rawson all the time. There can't be many mkvs in OC so figured I just might be ya. You see a silver with black markers and badges that's me:)
Yeah I have a autotech cb. Things loud. Makes stuff buzz inside when it's cold:/ |

I'll have to keep a look out. There is one other gti in the OC, a red mk5 with painted lowers. I did see it was posted on craigslist a while ago so maybe he sold it.

Four7 you probably don't see me that often cuz I work second shift. I actually parked next to u at pick n save like 2 weeks ago but u left before u. I added blacked out tails this weekend so I might be more noticeable now. Silver cars are a dime a dozen, so plain that u probably don't even notice them.
Pat got his apr sponsorship on his own. No prodding from me, I guess he had been working on it for a while. I have met the acci-dent guys once or twice and hear they do great work. |

Figured I'd ask here since Kummrow didn't really have anywhere to point out to me....
Does anyone here know a good place to roll fenders? I know I can rent a fender roller but for the hassle I'd almost rather take it somewhere local that has more experience than me. |

I would think any good body shop will have a guy talented enough to properly roll your fenders. My dad swears by a place called Manders out in Waukesha. I used them to spray some bike fairings once, their paint seemed good. But for fenders idk. Maybe a old restoration shop.

Maybe I'll try the body shop right by my house. In the past my experience is that even some body shops are hesitant to roll fenders in the event the paint cracks. I suppose I'll just call around.

Mines getting spent either way, k04 set up or an engagement ring.
Doesn't help that I want to buy, new breaks, motor/tranny/pendulum mounts, wheels/tires, and desperately need my windows tinted. |

I went to Ziebart on hwy 100 in West Allis and payed $160 I think. They did a good job. I would assume a 2dr would be cheaper.
