New intake and Dp from ATP!!! --awesome prices--

ATPturbo.com has IMO a really sweet looking intake and an awesome DP. A new DP for under 400?!?!? I was like sweet. But there is a catch, no cat. Anyway, here's the link.

Discuss.

The intake LOOKS good but I don't think the wires to the MAF are long enough to reach the MAF housing on it. Also, it looks like there should be one more bend in the tubing to put the filter in front of the battery.

That looks a nice dp...

Wish there was some options on parts here in the UK...

25bhp going from a standard dp with 2 cats to a 3" dp with no cats..... easy!

Anyone on here ran the 2.0fsi engine with no cats!? Im interested to hear how you got on...

Thanks

Since most have argued the 3.0 isn't the way to go, I don't know myself, I will mention the downpipe with cat in 2.5" is $450 from www.techtonicstuning.com . That is another good deal. Unless someone has proven the 3.0" is the way to go.

Sent an e-mail to ATP:

I was wondering if you had a picture of your intake installed on a new GTI. I am worried about the MAF wires being long enough to reach the MAF housing. Plus, I am just wondering how it looks on the car. Also, how does the aftermarker DV thing work since the FSI's have an electronic DV connected to the turbo?

From ATP:

Jamie,

Picture attached as you've requested.

MAF wire is more than enough reach.

The aftermarket DV port is there so that when you install an aftermarket DV,
the kit provides a reroute location after the MAF for proper air metering.

If you look at the stock integrated DV valve, the diaphram is prone to
rupture so we will offer a conversion kit that will bolt right into this. In
the picture, you'll see the DV port hidden because it's designed to be
installed the other way when an aftermarket DV is not installed. We'll
provide pictures of the DV reroute when that kit is released, but it's quite
trick.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!

I like the looks of that intake. I'm thinkn about doin that with the Evoms heat shield and engine cover.

I'm surprised no one has jumped on about the "hot" air intake. That part does not impress me, but the dp does.

its called ram air intake, provides more torque while sacrificing top end.

also, that intake has no kinds of support anywhere. the DP looks nice though.

You'd need a big one. I'm liking my K@N with the stock intake again.

what's the deal with running a "no-cat" system? What types of problems could you encounter? why is it illegal? What are the advantages?

Emissions is what makes it illegal, from my understanding the cat absorbs some of the nastys from the exhaust gas, which is why it is the most restrictve part of the exhaust system. You can get some great gains without one, at the cost of an increased effect on the environment.

since our cars are new, and we don't have to do smog checks, how can this be discovered?

It's a FEDERAL crime to not run a cat and if I remember correctly it's a $1500 fine not to have one (if you're caught) but, in VA we don't have emissions, just state inspection. So if you've got something that 'looks' like a cat you can get away with it.

The down side is no cat usually causes a rear 02 sensor DTC. The rear 02 sendor is built to moniter cat performance. With no cat you have a higher 02 (emissions level) so the rear cat seems to think the cat is f-ed up and you have the CE light come on.

Not sure if it works on this car, but one way to counteract this issue (for those cars that don't have a rear o2 simulator) is to get a couple spart plug foulers and put them into the rear 02 bung then screw the rear 02 sensor in it. That way, less exhaust gets to the 02 sensor, and therfore the sensor thinks there is a cat there.

this can only be discovered after the first two years when ur inspeciton is up, u can enjoy it for two years, then worry about the CAT. well at least here in texas.

ive made a few o2 simulators with spark plug defoulers from autozone, and they all clear the light.

like you said less exhaust cleaner air = no code = win win for inspection.
