One of the more popular TV appearances of this term was from the classic TV series from the 1970's called "The Sweeney" (detectives in the Mets "Flying squad") the tV series is not reality TV, but the police unit is real. The flying squad is the section of the London Metropolitan Police who deal with all the armed robberies, & serious & organised crime.
