haha....i wnted to avoid this BUT

I have a 1990 mustang coupe i bought for $2200 us dollars... the engine is dirt easy to work on and parts are plentiful. there are 2 reasons i HAVENT gone 100 percent in on a gti...
1- cost... my aunt is a retired ford employee so i can get a mustang gt for $26000 loaded

2- parts. its SOOOO easy to get a fox body or sn197 (current body) into the 12's it should be illegal

now back to my 1990 coupe. i got it for $2200 and over the internet i got a used set of AirFlow Research 165's heads, Kooks headers, Victor 5.0 intake, ford Z-cam (.552 lift and 228* duration) so for $2200 + $900 + $650 + $350 + $90 and a set of 4.10 gears im running 11.22 @ 117 mph and 10.7 @ 130 mph on a 150 shot of N20. i make 447hp on motor and 602hp on the spray.and i just ordered a steeda 5 link suspension

so when i see an exhuast is $1500 to get 20 or 30 hp on a gti i cringe, because i picked up 100 peak hp on my mujstang for the 900 dollar heads alone. to each his own

and yes it uses 1960's tech for a suspension...the live axle. thats because its the best thing to use for a car that most people drag race. look at the 2003 and 2004 cobras, the fastest ones had there IRS switched out for live axles.

i love the gti but hate car bashing... the stang has been around since 1964 for a reason.. a $27000 car that runs mid to low 13's from the factory on 87 octane is doing something right.

by the way, my mustang has 267000 miles (430000 km) with the ORIGINAL block, pistons, rods, crankshaft and still runs like a top. forged internals. how many cars can make that claim, at this power level? im not flaming. just dont compare apples to oranges

I used to have a GTO but had to get something at least a little bit practical. Obviously a GTI doesn't accelerate like a V8 car but you'll save time at the gas pump. The only huge difference is passing, the GTO was just a beast and it gave you the feeling that you could pass anyone anytime you pleased. The GTI is more a car that leaves you walking away with the feeling of a really well engineered, integrated design.

I do miss the power of the GTO though.
