headlights not turning off while driving

when i drive my car and turn on the low beam headlights and then turn the lightswitch to off, the interior lights go out but the headlights remain on until i turn off the car. My car is a 2009 rabbit, 5spd with two doors and DRL's if that makes any difference. I would like to know if this is a safety feature or whether my car is just acting weird.

I'm not I understand what you think is wrong, but the DRL's ARE your low beams. So they are always on when the key is in the run position, unless you apply the parking brake.

DRL=Daytime Running Lights, so lights that are on all of the time, as said before

They saved my ass more than once, from people almost turning in front of me. I probably would have totaled the car, and been hurt. So I likey.

if i start my car and then turn on the lights (say its early in the morning and dark) and then the sun comes out and i turn off my lights, the LOWBEAMS stay on. My DRL's are in my highbeams, i believe.

No the DRL's ARE your lowbeams. You don't even need to turn your headlights on in the morning since the DRL's already take care of that.

Its primarily for night when you can't see your interior gauges and what not.

The only way you can turn them off is if you have it programmed with vag-com by someone or a shop.

i have a little bulb in my high beams, (the small inner lights) which i think are my DRL's. im pretty sure that my lowbeams are the ones on the outer sides of the headlights. correct me if i am wrong, this would explain my confusion

Your headlights will never go off when the car is running (unless the parking brake is applied as mentioned) if you dont want your headlights on except when you want them on by using the switch, you have to have it Vag com'd
