Red and yellow tend to oxidize a little more than normal, but if you keep wax on it and give it a full claybar/polish/wax once a year, it'll stay nice.

from memory, it's because of red picks up a particular spectrum of light rays that causes it to be more susceptible to fading.

but if you maintain it, like you should any colour, it should not fade any quicker or worst than non-red.

always pays to have a good quality layer of wax on it....

Had Gretel since Sept '05.... wash her every fortnight, wax twice a year... people still tell me she looks brand new.... and I live in the tropic's, where the sun beats down so hard it makes your hair hurt.

I never buy red cars for this reason, as nearly every 10yo red car i've seen looks crap.

But i agree, if you look after it, it will stay looking good. Best thing i did was buy a Pinnacle kit from Waxit (www.waxit.com.au) - thread on the OzAudi fourms.. It's not the cheapest stuff around, but the kit does get you moving in the right direction with easy instructions, colour coded clothes etc. Even dealer delievered cars aren't prepared properly.

After getting mine i washed it, clay bar, polished, and waxed it.. took ages, but came up very good. (Just put your hand in a plastic coles bag and feel the grit - it should be silky smooth!).

hope this helps.

Bloody hell that's a serious kit for waxing your car, even comes with special clothes that match the car

Puts me to shame as I do mine in some daggy shorts and old t-shirt.... next time I'll wash and wax the car in a suit and the car will look amazing :bellyroll:

Thanks G-Rig...

Was looking for an all in one pack... the Pinnacle kit looks the sh*t... at the moment I'm using AutoGlym from my local paint shop guy, but I'll give this a crack.

Gotta confess to being a bit squimish about my ability at DIY clay blocking, how is it easy, or easy to f*&k up?

 i didn't mean clothes, but cloths. You can wear what you want when doing it, but in QLD it's not hard to work up a sweat, so some old king gee shorts and a navy blue singlet would be perfect.

Thanks G-Rig...

It's just easy as it has everything. I didn't know where to start if i walked into Autobarn or something.

Clay bar isn't very hard at all:

Best advice is never wash/wax/polish in circular motion - just go in straight lines and reduce the swirl marks. Also shouldn't have to press too hard.

Very easy & very satisfying. Just remember - lube, lube, lube (...said the actress to the bishop...) - seriously, just remember to keep the area wetted with the supplied lube and NEVER EVER drop the clay - every piece of grit on the ground will stick to the bar, ruining it.

Just do small areas at a time (like 1/4 of the bonnet, or the top 1/2 of a door &c) and do it in the shade. Follow up with a good wax/polish. BTW you can even do your glass as well. Stand back and admire. Enjoy!

Some good advice there mate. If you drop the clay bar thow it out. I was pretty pedantic (not unusal) because i wanted to show the car a good time before i got the protection film applied.

I did my headlights too (The car could have been sitting in the weather for months overseas).

Agree it's a bit of work, but satisfying. I didn't want to drive the car when it was perfect.
