Seeing as how the ITG is almost twice as much (K&N is $47 on amazon, and ITG is $70). Is the ITG worth the extra money? I already have the cleaning kit for the K&N so that's not a factor, I was just wondering if it filtered better/performed better in someway. I couldn't find any dynos of either so I'm kinda stuck. I might just end up getting the K&N to save some cash. I'm bone stock for now and looking to go stage 1 in a year.

if im not mistaken the only difference you'd get out of those two is that one is oiled (K&N) i wouldn't see why one would perform better then the other by much, most likely not noticeable difference.

my person belief is that you should get an CAI, it will give you a slighlty bit more power, not that noticeable either. but the current path of air to the filter is not of my liking. the set up is meant for engine noise not to come out. which makes it harder for the engine to pull air in.

something to look at is whether you like the sound it makes with the intake, i will tell you that it took getting use to. if not just get the K&N drop in filter and do the reflash

but my opinion is either the K&N drop in if you decide on that, but if it is an oiled filter like i think it is you might run into the problem of over oiling it and killing the MAF. second option is getting the intake, only if thats what you wanna do and if you have 200$ to spend

I went through this decision recently as well. Personally I opted for the ITG drop in. The ITG comes pre oiled, and I wasn't confident that I could oil the K&N properly without destroying my MAF.

they all come pre oiled just when you have to clean it you have to re oil it or just buy another. and the itg shouldn't be oiled, correct me if im wrong but ITG is one of the oil free filter companys. i had a great hell of a discussion when i was doing the CA intake on my car.. it was a very kind discussion .. lol

The only intake I'd want to get other then a drop in is the carbonio. I don't really want a loud car because this is my daily driver and I kind of got tired of it after being in the honda scene. Seeing as how the ITG is foam and K&N is cotton, I was just wondering if there were any pros and cons. I'm capable of oiling a filter because I did it for my older car. The ITG just seems more euro and unique to me at this point since a K&N is readily available anywhere and a lot of people have it.

i can't see the carbonio being any different then the setup you have now, it just looks nice to me, and it keeps the engine cover. but back to the drop in i still think your not gonna get much a difference with either, but a difference from the stock paper filter you will see. this might turn into one of those oiled vs dry filter threads, just to warn you. id still go with the K&N and if you do use it for daily driving and dont wanna hear it its my best option. you should maybe add a poll to this thread.

Yeah, it just looks really clean to me. I'm probably fine with either drop-in. I figured I'd ask since after searching there wasn't any clear cut comparision between the two other than preference. But hey, the K&N seems like the best bang for buck right now since I have everything to easily maintain it.

But damn, love that carbonio...hahaha

The ITG for the MKV comes preoiled, but SHOULDN'T be reoiled when you clean it. Vaccum and reseat.

As for the oiled versus dry... well, I consider the ITG a dry filter (as in I don't need to oil it myself. Ever.) So you'll get no argument from me?

what I've heard about itg filters though, and it may be wrong, is that at higher RPMs when the engine is taking in significantly more air, all that suction compresses the foam a bit which makes it denser, thus making air a bit harder to flow through and we know what that can do. so if that's true, I wouldn't get an itg.

personally, before I even knew of such a filter, I got a k&n drop-in filter. I like it a lot. I got it within the first month of driving the car, so I can't really offer comparisons anymore in terms of performance, but for mileage, I can say that it helped a bit. and I can hear the engine/turbo a bit more too (which I like).

Personnally I went K&N, for a few reasons:

1) why pay twice as much for no extra gains? :iono:

2) I've used K&N's before with no problems, so I feel comfortable with the product. Just like how some people don't like the idea of oiling the filter, I don't like the idea of sticking a block of foam in my intake. :bellyroll:

edit: and what's the point of it being more "euro" if it's packed inside the airbox where no one will ever see it? :iono:

But really, I'd suggest just spending the extra cash on a CAI... I've been kinda kicking myself for not just doing that in the first place. Sure it doesn't add much more power, but it does get rid of that engine cover, and it's always nice to hear the turbo a bit more.

hes not asking for brand, hes asking whether it should be the oil-less filter from ITG or K&N's oiled one. doesn't have much to do with the name but the fact that the two are different

Go to a coffee enthusiast's forum and I'm sure you'll find lots of discussion about filters.

This is what enthusiasts do...they obsess over that final .1% difference in every last detail.
