feels pretty good - but really cont compare to the GTI until I get a chance to push the car much closer to the limit - still in break in miles.

I'd guess the "t" is for touring but it does look like it says xi.

the 2008 is officially a 535ix.
It has the 300 HP twin turbo motor from the 335i. "t" for BMW has been for Touring as in 318ti, 2002 tii, 528ti. I guess this time they officially dropped the t. I havent got used to that yet.
