So I just discovered the Fractal Torrent I linked earlier today has a "nano" version, itx. Then I discovered it might be discontinued? It's not very available, but I really like it.

I got the Nano version of the Fractal Torrent on order. I guess we'll have to see what happens...I found a store that, at least online, claims they have a few left. I don't know if it's just on backorder or if it's discontinued, but I feel good about this one and don't want to miss it. As far as I can tell it's the only 3 left in the country. I have no idea what to expect from this store and if they'll actually ship it.

It's still big af by SFF standards, but at least better than the Torrent Compact lol. You will need a new motherboard though.

Your R6 vs Torrent Nano vs NR200

Yea it's not really SFF, but I'm good with that. Mobos I found pretty limiting. There was only a single ITX board for both intel and amd that I found with an optical port on it. I gotta have an optical port, so I guess I'm going with one of those two. I got everything picked out already, but I'm gonna try and sit on the case for a while and not do anything with it. I wasn't planning on ordering a case yet. I only did that because I found one I really liked, but it looks to be hard to get. Hopefully I found out today if it ships.

SPDIF or coax optical?

Dunno the difference, but the board I have now has spdif and so does the one I'm looking at.

Apparently I don't either. I thought this was spdif

And this was coax?

1694097134331.png

But apparently not. Coax isn't optical, those are both spdif, but the top is toslink, and both those are interchangable?

Fuck if I know. I'm a pleb and just use USB audio.

You need a square hole or a round one?

I need one like the top, with the square hole.

For Intel I found this one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4CKCRYW/
I know gigabyte isn't everyones favorite company, but I have a gigabyte z390 auros in my current PC and I haven't had any problems with it.

For AMD I found this one - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BP9LJBP8/

Those are the only 2 I've been able to find, but so far I've only looked on amazon.

I have a I7-9700k right now, so for CPUs I guess I've ended up on the I7-13700k vs the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The processors are the same price, but the mobo for AMD is $120 more. The biggest differences seem to be the amd board supports Gen 5 SSDs, but I'll have to stick to gen 4 with the intel board. There doesn't seem to be a lot of gen 5 ssds to pick from currently, and I like the price of gen 4 more. They both can use DDR5 ram though, so I'll be able to upgrade that. Then the intel board has higher memory clock speed.

On the benchmark testing it looks like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D pulls ahead of the 13700k slightly at 1440p, but they're pretty even at 4k.

Whatever MOBO I go with I want 2x nvmes, ddr5, and an optical port.

Just because it has a window I'm gonna throw some RGB puke in there.
The CPU cooler I'm thinking of getting - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3RWFPJG/
This one performs about equal with a $120 noctua cooler.

Then the RAM I've got on my list - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3RWFPJG/

All my NVMEs are only 500gb, so I was thinking of keeping my OS on 1 of my 500gb drives, and then upgrade the other one to a 2TB.

I have no issues with Gigabyte boards. My last one (that's now in my server) was a Gigabyte board.

The ASRock one also has optical out.

Interesting nvme cooler. For some of these I might have to figure out if an air cooler would clear something like that. If it's no taller than the heatshield stuff on the left then I'm assuming it should clear it.

Can't say I'm surprised. My search continues.
Unfortunately, our last few units of the Torrent Nano RGB Black TG case are demo/open-box units and are not in shippable condition. The item is backordered without ETA (no vendor stock, no restock ETA), and we are unable to fulfill the order. We will cancel the order and we apologize for the inconvenience.

The order was not charged and any holds on the credit card will be released within 1-2 business days.

I've spent way too much time looking at cases and mobos, and I'm sadly still trying to make a decision. I dunno if I like any ITX boards enough. This optical port requirement I have kinda sucks and really limits my choices. I guess I could open up some more options for myself by getting an RCA to 3.5mm cable, or some kind of conversion or adapter like that.

I put together a build on pc parts picker for an ITX build with the phanteks shift evolve xt. I think if I go ITX that'll be the route I go.

I need to put together a m-ATX build now and see how that turns out. If I can save a bit of money by going m-ATX instead and get a case with a bunch of airflow I might go that route instead. The m-ATX cases are even more generic than ITX cases though.

What is your setup that you need the optical out for?
