dear friends,
i have the battery drain issue and after reading almost all of this topic, i can't understand if there's a certain solution to this problem.

what is the problem ? the unit or the canbus itself?
is there a DIY solution that will eliminate the problem for sure?
thank you !

- Reception is good, but some cars may need a dual fakra to single din adapter.
- volume for radio is louder than other modes. need to remember to turn down the volume when changing to radio mode.
- no "Audio" menu in MFD

2. Navigation

- choice of Tom Tom, Route 66, or IGo8
- loads from SD card in GPS Card slot
- software is up to you, can download updates, etc.
- comes with GPS antenna
- so far IGo8 works great. I even have all the latest maps. GPS trip information etc. is a bonus.
- there is no Navigation menu in the MFD.
- you can listen to your other audio/video sources while you're in navigation mode. The nav button can toggle you back and forth between the navigation screen and audio/video source screen.

3. CD-C (CD Changer)

- unfortunately no music text
- no "Audio" menu in MFD

4. iPod

- connects to the front of headunit with supplied iPod cable.
- able to mimic menu system shown on iPod

- no "Audio" menu in MFD

5. Bluetooth

- very easy to get working and pair with phone
- can view directory of phone numbers from your phone.
- no "phone" display in the MFD
- phone button on steering wheel works to answer calls, and place calls when number is selected
- call quality seems good, adequate

6. DVD

- Picture resolution is great!
- very easy to use
- memory playback for last point on DVD
- slight hiss on volume levels up to level 5 when parked, not an issue while driving.
- uses the dvd/cd slot at the top of the unit
- your basic multimedia based on disc player

7. SD Card slot

- not much to explain, load and browse folders
- plays MP3, DivX, JPG, etc. you get the idea, it does a lot.
- shows file names, don't remember if it shows ID3 tags. (i think it might)
- officially supports up to 2GB SD (non SDHC), but might support 4GB SD (non SDHC).

8. TV
(picture placeholder)
- requires external antenna to be purchased

9. Aux-In
(picture placeholder)
- cable is supplied with unit
- cable plugs into back of unit, and has a set of female RCA cables.
- you can hook up video game systems, or external A/V systems to this cable.

10. Rear View Camera
(picture placeholder)
- requires purchase of camera sold separately.
- used for rearview camera.

General Questions:
1. Does this unit work with the OEM VW premium audio amplifier?
Yes

2. How easy is this unit to install?
It is plug and play...no brainer

3. Does this unit support SDHC?
no

4. Can I use the steering wheel controls with this unit?
only the volume and mute buttons work. there is no audio menu. Still can use controls for trip and convenience setting menus.

5. Will my satellite radio unit (sirius, xm) work through the OEM harness connection with the WD6050?
no

6. Does this unit have a built-in hard drive?
no

7. Can you disable beeping on buttons?
yes

8. Can you watch videos while driving?
I wouldn't recommend it if you're the driver, but yes. You could also toggle it to safety mode to prohibit watching while driving too!

9. Does this unit have USB?
No. It remains to be seen if the new Multimedia adapter that is supposed to be used for the RNS-510 will work with this unit.

can it not use the stock ipod adaptor in the center consol???

You need a late model canbus OR wire up a relay to power unit when ignition switched on.

Hey all....
I'm buying a used Maisun MT6501 HU off someone on tex.....
is it the same unit as the WD6050?(I believe so...)
The seller will only sell me the HU but with no harness....
I contacted with Maisun, but they don't make the harness anymore.
I then contacted Waywell,as I believe their harness will work.... they asked me for a serial number...which I don't have because I got the Maisun.

If anyone can provide me one of theirs, that would be very helpful...
Thanks in advance

I've been having some sort of electrical trouble for a year... limping through because I've had more important projects (planned a wedding, etc.). I believe it's a problem in the amp: all audio output makes a terrible sound. I can still understand speech, but there's this whiny "squelch" noise and any high volume distorts terribly. I'm guessing this is a ground issue? I took the unit out, and took the heatsink of, but can't see anything terribly wrong immediately. The noise changes over short periods of time: it's not too bad for the first few seconds, then it's terrible (painful), then it sorta settles into a mode where it's almost tolerable but the audio sounds really bad. I think the volume gets quieter and quieter the longer the ignition is on. These symptoms make me wonder if it's heat related (it might be not-as-bad in winter... or I might be fooling myself). Has anyone else had this kind of trouble? I'm willing to dig into the circuit boards and look for trouble spots - a blown capacitor or something. But I figured I'd ask for tips first. Any idea where to look?

I'd count yourself lucky if your unit has been working for a year.

If you do ever manage to fix it, something else will break soon enough. Upgrade time, methinks.

Amp problem in the WD6050 / MT6501

I've been having same exact problem and still don't know what the solution is

I tried getting the audio from the AUX outs (the RCA connections that plug into the back). It comes out clean, which means it's the amp. I'm looking around for someone with more circuit knowledge to help me know where to look. I can solder small stuff, but don't see anything blatantly burned out on the board.

not the wiring

Be sure to report back if you find anything out please!

I chased down all the wiring today, to find which wires run what. I checked all the connections and voltages, and I'm pretty sure none of those are the source of trouble.

I have 2 steps left before I'm stumped and need help

Learn more about the one piece of electronics that touches the heat-sink. I figure its gotta be the amp... and some of the way the bad sound behaves makes me think it's thermal.

Re-assemble everything (and hope I magically fixed it), and feed the auxiliary outs through a secondary amp to make sure they're giving a clean output.

It would be relatively easy to re-wire the speakers through an aftermarket amp... but that's more hardware and I'm hoping I don't have to bother (I might just look for new hardware all together...)

probably not the unit's fault...

Be sure to report back if you find anything out please!

I found a short in my drivers-backseat speaker. I haven't fixed it yet, nor re-assembled the unit. But, JAK-RBT, you might unplug your unit and test the resistance across each of your speakers (the 8 wires in the light-brown connector). I'm beginning to think the Chinese electronics might not have anything to do with my problem... but hopefully we'll know for sure when I get a little more time.
