i got bored at work the other night and decided i would try and use our metal lathe and make my own shift knob.
i bought a ball hitch from walmart for $5 and thats all i spent to make this.
1-i used the lathe to cut away the collar that the ball hitch had originally.
2- i cut a grove for my shift boot to fit into and also cut off the excess threading that was on.
3-i took the lathe across the middle of the to add a engraved line in the middle of the knob.
4-after i was done using the lathe i went to the mill and engraved 8 shallow holes an bored out the center with a 1/2" drill bit for the shat to fit into.
5-i drilled and tapped 3 hols in the collar for set scres so it will fit tightly on the shaft.
6-i decided to add some red striping in the center engraved area
i like the design of the forge "big knob" thats where i got my idea from. not too bad for $5 and 2 hours of work:thumbsup:
